In the light of Covid19 leading Somali broadcasters have come together in an unprecedented move to unite and focus on raising the highly desired awareness about the dangers of this pandemic. We are very concerned about local attitudes towards the prevention of Covid19 and believe this needs a collective effort on our part as broadcasters to ensure people understand the importance of social distancing and other important health information to keep the pandemic in check. The Somali Independent Broadcasters Association (SIBA) is a strategic association of 10 leading independent televisions. The network, launched in May 2020, strengthens smart, engaged, high-pact journalism that supports the democratic process in the Somali regions and helps to redefine the political and cultural debate.
